Landscaping in the Eastern Suburbs
Landscaping for compact Eastern Suburbs yards and courtyards, from Paddington to Coogee.
Landscaping in the Eastern Suburbs
Yards in the Eastern Suburbs are often small, close to the neighbours and exposed to the coast. Every square metre has to work, and access for machinery and materials is usually tight.
Good design matters most in a small space. We plan levels, paving, planting and storage together, so a compact yard feels bigger, gives you privacy and stays easy to look after.
From terrace courtyards in Paddington to harbourside gardens in Rose Bay and Vaucluse and coastal yards in Bronte and Coogee, the challenges differ, but the approach is the same: a clear plan, quality materials and a build that respects the house and the neighbours.
Local conditions we plan for
- Small yards and courtyards. Every square metre counts, so seating, planters, storage and lighting are built in, not added later.
- Tight access. Narrow side paths, stairs and street parking mean deliveries, machinery and removal are planned around the access you have.
- Privacy. Close neighbours and apartments overlooking the yard make screening planting and well-placed walls important.
- Coastal exposure. Sandy soil, salt and wind near the beaches call for hardy planting, improved soil and materials that last.
Common projects in the Eastern Suburbs
- Courtyard and small-yard design
- Paved terraces and entertaining areas
- Screening for privacy from close neighbours
- Drip irrigation for sandy soils that dry out fast
- Planter walls and built-in seating
- Drainage for paved courtyards
Suburbs we cover
We work across the Eastern Suburbs, including Paddington, Woollahra, Edgecliff, Double Bay, Bellevue Hill, Rose Bay, Vaucluse, Dover Heights, Bondi, Bronte, Clovelly, Coogee, Randwick, Kensington and Maroubra. Not sure if we cover your street? Call 0423 830 285.
Councils and approvals
The Eastern Suburbs are covered mainly by Woollahra, Waverley and Randwick councils. Heritage areas, such as parts of Paddington and Woollahra, can have extra rules about what’s visible from the street. We’ll tell you what applies at the site visit.
How it works
- Call or send an enquiry. Tell us what you have in mind and where you are.
- Site visit. We walk the block with you and look at the levels, soil, drainage and access.
- Itemised quote. A quote written for your block, with a timeline, before anything starts.
- The build. Our own crew builds it in the right order: drainage and structure first, finishes last.
- Handover. The site cleaned up and a walk-through, with care instructions for the lawn, plants and irrigation.
One crew, quoted to your site
Every project starts with a site visit and an itemised quote written for your block. The people who quote your job are the people who build it.

Eastern Suburbs: local questions
Can you design a small courtyard?
Yes. Small spaces benefit most from a proper plan: built-in seating, planters and the right paving make a courtyard work much harder.
Do sandy soils need special preparation?
Sandy soil drains fast and holds few nutrients, so we improve it with organic matter and often add drip irrigation.
How do you work with tight access?
We plan deliveries, machinery size and removal around your access at the site visit. Smaller equipment and careful staging keep the job moving.
Which plants give privacy in a small yard?
Narrow, upright screening plants and hedging that don’t take up much ground. We’ll choose them for the height you need and the light you have.
Do you work on terrace houses?
Yes. Terrace backyards are a regular job: paving, planter walls, drainage and planting that make a narrow space work.
Still got a question? Ask the person who’d build it.
They took the time to listen to my ideas, offered thoughtful suggestions, and turned what was a pretty dull space into something that actually feels like an outdoor retreat.
You can tell they actually care about the details, everything looks clean and well finished. They used good quality materials too, not the cheap stuff.
They showed up on time, worked efficiently, and paid attention to the small details. The paving and lawn came out great, and they left the place spotless after.
Always listening carefully to instructions and making sure the work was completed exactly as requested.
